Hyderabad Rising

After an almost six week long trip to India we are back in freezing Cincy. I was in Hyderabad for four of the six weeks on work, training our support team on our systems.

It was my first ever experience working in an office environment in India and in spite of having a fair bit of knowledge about their culture, I was still surprised by it. Standing up (as a show of reverence) when a senior entered one's cube was a bit too much for me. I have nothing against showing respect but I couldn't get myself to do it. The atmosphere appeared to be VERY relaxed to the point where I wondered if any work was being done at all. I was however, very impressed with the level of expertise and promise that some of our team displayed. India obviously is not an IT power for nothing.

The architecture of the new buildings in Hi-Tech city is absolutely amazing. The MNC's have pulled out all the stops in constructing their complexes and splurged in an effort to one-up their neighbors.

The roads and traffic are something else, though. A stretch of 6 miles would take anywhere from 25 minutes to more than an hour. I don't know what I'd have done without the car and driver.

All in all, thanks to Chandrababu Naidu's vision, Hyderabad appears to be heading in the right direction. If only he could have convinced the rest of AP to keep his government in power.
